COVID-19 pandemic and the rise of e-book

The whole world is suffering from the Covid-19 pandemic.  How dangerous the disease can be, can be estimated from the figures affected by it. This pandemic has emerged as a challenge to give a new direction not only to the business of the people but also to their way of working.  One of those challenges is learning. Schools, colleges, libraries like centers of education are completely closed. Due to which learning is completely devastated. Academics have been facing difficulties in procuring knowledge. The market is closed and they do not come out of the house as well.

COVID 19 and rise of Ebook

In the first phase of Corona, there was a piece of news spread that Corona also spreads through books, newspapers, and other sources.  But after some research, this news was denied but this belief remained among the people.  Due to which many print media had to suffer.  In recent times, many printing shops have either closed down or reduced their production.  Therefore, publishers supported and promoted digital content in this pandemic.  Many current affairs magazines published eBooks of their content to avoid their losses and subscribers. Which people accepted by hand to hand.  It is very easy; one can easily read it on mobile, tablet, or computer’s screen. There are some important benefits when we use eBooks.

  • The first advantage is that we can access it anytime, anywhere.
  • We can flick through the pages, one by one, or we can jump around to find what we are looking for.
  • In this, we can easily know the meaning of any word in any language in just one click.
  • We can enlarge or shrink the font here.
  • We can change the night mod or background light  as per our convenience.
  • We can write notes on the pages as we do in our print book.
  • We can highlight the important Line or paragraph with different colors and also erase the highlighting when we don't need it anymore. Which we can't do on a print book.

From the above important points, it is known that eBook not only gives the complete filling like a print book but it is also much more convenient than that.  A print book may get ruined over time or due to natural causes, but the eBook is safe forever and without any degradation.  EBook can also make a very important contribution to nature and the environment.  Because in the production of paper used in print books, 93% of the raw material is obtained from trees. Not only does the cutting of trees cause environmental damage, but it also causes harmful outputs like air and water pollution during production. Later, paper waste also causes a lot of pollution.  A report of 2014 shows that out of 258 million garbage, about 26% means 67 million were related to waste paper. So we can stop polluting the environment with the help of EBooks.

Some companies are playing a very important role in the field of making eBooks.  In which the name of Amazon is very important.  It also made a device named Kindle, which is primarily designed with eBooks in mind.  Amazon also allows authors to publish books.  Due to which new writers are emerging.

EBooks are going to become a familiar fixture, enhancing our teaching and enhancing our students' learning. Of course, it will be the best source of information even post-Corona period. However, EBooks are so much more than a digital version of the print book.
