इसे भारत की राजनीतिक या आर्थिक गिरावट ही कहीं जा सकती है क्योंकि इतने सस्ते क्रूड ऑयल के बावजूद अपने सीमित रिज़र्व के कारण,हम फायदा नहीं ले पा रहे है। चाहे कोई भी राजनीतिक दल हो किसी ने भी अपने यहां SPR (Strategic petroleum reserve) बढ़ाने की कोशिश नही की, इसका परिणाम यह हुआ की हमारे पास दुनिया के अन्य देशों की अपेक्षा काफी कम रिज़र्व है। आप इसे ऐसे समझे अमेरिका के पास 730 मिलियन बैरल, चीन के पास 550 मिलियन बैरल, जापान के पास 528 मिलियन बैरल और दक्षिण कोरिया के पास 214 मिलियन बैरल का पेट्रोलियम रिज़र्व कैपेसिटी है, परन्तु हमारे भारत के पास केवल 39 मिलियन बैरल का ही कैपेसिटी है। यही कारण है कि भारत क्रूड ऑयल की गिरती कीमतों का फायदा उठाने में असमर्थ है, और इससे हमें समझना होगा कि युद्ध या प्राकृतिक आपदा के समय हमारी स्थिति दूसरे देशों से कितनी बद्तर हो सकती है।
